A Trio of Outings for Your Pleasure
March 7, 2023 at 10:06 p.m.
There are three appealing outings taking place on March 17, 18 and 19, so we decided to list all three for this week’s “Featured Outing” post.
Wings Over Water Northwest Birding Festival takes place March 17 through 19, with field trips, birding and wildlife cruises, an all-day birding expo on Saturday with expert speakers, wildlife presentations, live raptor shows, kids’ activities, food, art & craft vendors and wildlife exhibits and displays. The annual event is held in several locations including Blaine, Semiamoo Spit and Birch Bay, all within a short drive from the Festival headquarters. The event celebrates the incredible variety of migratory birds that flock to the coastal waters of the region, which is a major stopover on the Pacific Flyway in the Northwest corner of Washington state. The Festival activities are free, with the exception of the very popular field trips, which require preregistration. For more information, visit www.wingsoverwaterbirdingfestival.com.
The Quilters Anomous Quilt Show takes place March 17, 18 and 19 at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe. Quilters Anonymous celebrates its 41st show with the theme “Cascade of Quilts,” a tribute to our Northwest location. You can attend free demonstrations of various quilt-making techniques throughout each day. Quilts, fabrics and other quilt-related goods will be available for purchase from the Merchant Mall. Bargains are available from gently used books, quilts and more. $10 for full three-day event, free parking. For more information, visit www.quiltersanonymous.org/qa/events/quilt-show/
March Edible Plant Sale takes place on Saturday, March 18 from 9am to 3pm. Despite our frigid weather in early March, this event is a sure sign of spring. March is a great month to begin planting an edible garden to enjoy all year round. Tilth Alliance presents this plant sale so you can stock up on spring plant starts while enjoying the festive event atmosphere. You will find easy-to-grow plants for beginners, regional favorites, 7 varieties of onions, Heirloom plants, and more. Plant experts will be on hand to answer all of your questions. Bring your wagons, carts, boxes and flats. The event takes place at the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands, located at 5513 South Cloverdale Street in Seattle. IMPORTANT NOTE: parking is tricky – be sure to read the directions, take a look at the map and note the parking restrictions information on the website before you attend. March Edible Plant Sale
