Libraries Provide Refuge in the Aftermath of the Storm

Libraries in the greater Seattle area have been filled with residents looking to get warm, recharge devices, use Wi-Fi and more.

Heidi Daniel, KCLS executive director, provided a statement, “We are committed to being there for our community during this challenging time. We understand that many are still recovering and may be without power, and we will prioritize safety by closing libraries if necessary. Unfortunately, our mobile service vans were damaged, leading to a temporary suspension of those services. We will continue to provide updates at KCLS.org. Our hearts go out to everyone affected, including our patrons and staff facing the aftermath of this serious devastation. Together, we will navigate this difficult time.”

Sarah Thomas of KCLS said that 2,440 people visited the Bellevue Library yesterday, and 1,360 have visited the library so far today (as of 2:30pm on Friday). Internet access at Bellevue library increased by almost five times yesterday evening.

To learn if your local library is open, give them a call. King County Library updates can be found at KCLS.org.

Stay safe out there!
