| April 16, 2023

The King County Library System is happy to return with our third successful online PIONEERS IN AGING speaker series.

Here’s our wonderful spring 2023 lineup! Please register for each session separately to receive the Zoom link which arrives the day before. These sessions will not be recorded, but if you register, you will receive the notes following the sessions even if you are not able to attend.

Maria Kliavkoff, Creating Compassionate Grief Communities (back by popular demand), Monday, April 24, noon-1:00pm

Most of us have never been taught what to do with grief or how to mourn our losses. Based on her book, Healthy Mourning, Happy Loving, Maria will shine a light on a topic that has remained buried for too long, sharing clarity in the chaos and hope for the grief journey.

Dori Gillam, What’s Age Got to Do with It?Monday, May 1, noon-1:00pm.

Dori takes a lighter look at aging while showing us how ingrained ageism is in our society through birthday cards and advertising. Age is the only identity group of which we are all always a member, so let’s start being positive and proud of every age!

Diane Gillespie, There’s Nothing Like a Good Night’s Sleep, Monday, May 8, noon-1:00pm

Diane will discuss sleeping challenges and describe inexpensive, non-pharmacological sleeping strategies. Her book, Stories for Getting Back to Sleep, contains 17 stories to help you to sleep. Five of her stories are widely used on sleepiest.com. She also provides a resource sheet for other cognitive behavior strategies for increasing natural sleep.

Dr. Jim deMaine, Our Lives, Our Choices, Monday, May 15, noon-1:00pm

Dr. deMaine will share his memoir, Facing Death: Finding Dignity, Hope and Healing at the End. Reaching beyond the traditional scope of a physician, Dr. deMaine explores the role of spirituality, conflicts between doctors and families, cultural traditions and more. He invites us to a large-hearted conversation with advice pointing the way toward a grace-filled transition out of life.

Sessions will not be recorded, but notes will be shared with all registrants.

Register for each separately at 1.kcls.org/pioneers or call your local library.

Any questions, please sing out. See you there and happy spring!
