Whether you are looking for online dating tips or just more general dating advice, there is one question that invariably comes up: How intimate should you get on that very first date? That answer might be different for every person, but there are some pros and cons that are wise for anyone to consider prior to the first date with a new person.

Getting close fast: The pros

If you get intimate with a new person very fast, some people say it is a great way to build a bond fast. It might be true that physical intimacy can make you feel very close: After all, when you are exposed physically it may tend to encourage sharing of emotions and thoughts. Another possible pro of getting intimate on the first date is that you won't have to put those physical urges on hold. Some people feel that due to morality, personal beliefs, or inhibition that they can't get intimate so fast — but those people might end up feeling very physically frustrated while they wait. After all, if you are sure that this is the person for you from the very first date, some people say, "Why wait?" And after all, once you've reached senior status you might very well be thinking: "Use it before you lose it!" There may be some truth to that old adage, because you really might want to get intimate while you're still young and healthy enough to enjoy it!

Getting close fast: The cons

Most dating advice will caution you to be very careful about getting intimate on the first date because you really don't know your date very well yet. After all, this person is new to you, and you are new to them: Do you really know if they are trustworthy? If they will treat you with respect after you get physical with them? You also need to consider that even with protection, sexually transmitted disease can still be a risk, no matter what your age or stage in life. Are you really prepared to take that risk on a first date, no matter how small it is? You need to also consider your health: As a senior, you might have some health risks that could make intimacy a risk. This is something you should discuss with your doctor to make sure you're healthy enough for physical intimacy.

Nobody can definitively tell you exactly what is right for you in terms of first date intimacy. But when you consider the pros and cons here, your heart will tell you what is right for you!
