Dori Gillam will be facilitating a Wisdom Cafe discussion on May 16

On Thursday, May 16 from 2-3:30pm join others at the Wisdom Cafe at the Richmond Beach Library. Wisdom Cafes provide space for older adults to engage in ongoing and facilitated conversations about livability issues affecting all people as we grow.

This month’s topic is “The D Word — Dependence.” Independence is an unquestioned American value that doesn’t acknowledge the reality of most of our lives. We will all face the dilemmas of dependency, both as care givers and care receivers. How can we think about this differently? Where does interdependence fit on the scale?

This discussion will be facilitated by Dori Gillam, who facilitates groups, writes, and speaks on ageism and inspiring people to age creatively. Dori is a Charter Member of the Age Friendly Seattle Coalition, a Board Chair for the NW Center for Creative Aging, and has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity building houses around the world. Dori Gillam cared for her parents for the last seven years of their lives and performs a story about them at local theaters and for conferences. She has worked for Sound Generations, AARP and the Bayview Retirement Community.

This event will take place in person at the Richmond Beach Library, which is located at 19601 21st Avenue NW in Shoreline. Registration is not required, but for more information, call (206) 546-3522 or visit the following link: https://kcls.bibliocommons.com/events/65de4b6a4c5c402f004193f2
