Gig Harbor ranked at the top of World Atlas' list of ideal Washington towns for retirees

By leaps and bounds, the top viewed story over the past month is “10 Washington Towns Ideal for Seniors.”

Gig Harbor came in first in World Atlas’ list of ideal towns for seniors, with the Victorian seaport of Port Townsend next, followed by Sequim, Ocean Shores, Snohomish, Bainbridge Island, Clarkston, Anacortes and Hoquiam. Lynnwood rounded out their top 10.

Interestingly, I spotted another article by World Atlas on a similar topic but with different results — both posted in the month of January.

But the new article includes different towns for retirees: 7 Top-Ranked Towns in Washington for Retirees. I plan to post a summary of the article soon, but in the meantime, I’m listing the towns from the new article below.

The new list is somewhat different from last month’s article, with only three towns included on both lists.

The first article primarily looked at towns with a significant percentage of seniors in the population, with the idea that lots of seniors means it’s a pretty good place to retire. The new article took a slightly different look and included other factors for consideration.

Here is the list from the second article: 7 Top-Ranked Towns in Washington for Retirees:

— Wenatchee

— Sequim (on both lists)

— Winthrop

— Port Townsend (on both lists)

— Long Beach

— Gig Harbor (on both lists)

— Walla Walla

The first article recounts the towns with high populations of seniors. Here is the link: 10 Washington Towns Ideal for Seniors

The second article includes other factors to consider beyond the population of seniors when you are looking at retirement towns. Here is the link to the second article: 7 Top Ranked Towns in Washington for Retirees
