Snippets of Wisdom

Over the years, I have always tried to impart little snippets of wisdom to my children whether they liked it or not—sensible things like, “Do not put your tongue on a frozen metal pole,” and character-building things like, “Always be polite and never be tardy for appointments.” They have grown into responsible adults, so while I sit back and revel in a job well done, I will share a few more snippets:

WAKE UP CALL
Is your tardiness giving you grief
And you sense unemployment hovers?
In order to turn a new leaf,
You must first turn back the covers.

A GOOD POINT
This is a fact of life
Upon which I always will harp:
It’s easy to cut your own throat
If your tongue is becoming too sharp.

FOOTPRINTS
Your footprints in the sands of time
Would be a lot more fitting
Than impressions you will make
If you are always sitting.

DIDN’T I TELL YOU?
Didn’t I tell you a grimace will freeze
If you don’t stop making that face?
And didn’t I tell you that crossing your eyes
Will stick your eyeballs in place?
Didn’t I tell you that playing with frogs
Will certainly give you a wart?
And drinking coffee will stunt your growth
So that when you grow up you’ll be short?
Didn’t I spread my wisdom around
In a dribble, a drop or a hunk?
Did I ever tell you that some of it
Was simply a lot of bunk?
