One of their neighbors in need, Yvonne, a disabled older adult, speaks about Rebuilding Together South Sound being a labor of love. “The work you did was so impactful on my life. I did not realize the difference walker stairs, lever door handles, and grab bars would make in my life. Buddy loves the new stairs! Thank you so much for improving the way I live every day.”
Since 2001, Rebuilding Together South Sound has worked to make essential repairs to help their neighbors stay in their homes at no-cost to them. During a time when the income inequality gap continues to widen, too many neighbors endure health and economic consequences from living in substandard housing.
Rebuilding Together addresses these issues by providing free repairs to their neighbors in need during a time when these services are needed the most. Their programs serve low-income older adults, people with disabilities, veterans, and families with children under the age of 18. Rebuilding Together South Sound believes that every person should be given the opportunity to live, learn, work, thrive, and age in a safe home.
With the efforts of the community partners, corporate partners, donors, and volunteers their repairs have provided a market value of $8.9 million dollars. This handiwork involved more than 10,840 volunteers who have given more than 110,000 hours of time. As they celebrate their 1,200th repair, they will continue their efforts in repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives.
