I heard it was spectacular. I was in Las Vegas and like taking trips to see natural sights when I visit an area.
We were in a van instead of a bus and had a professional tour driver. He had only one speed: a hundred miles per hour! I think it was a 275-mile trip, and we made it in close to five hours—cramped and no time for stops along the way. We turned into the road to the Grand Canyon…not at 100 mph fortunately.
“We’re here,” we sighed. We pulled up next to an old tourist hotel, got out, and walked across the street to look down.
SHARING STORIES is a weekly column for and about the 50 plus crowd living in the Puget Sound region. Send your stories and photos to ariele@comcast.net. Tell local or personal stories; discuss concerns around aging and other issues; share solutions, good luck, and reasons to celebrate; poems are fine too. Pieces may be edited or excerpted. We reserve the right to select among pieces. Photos are always a plus and a one-sentence bio is requested (where you live, maybe age or career, retired status, etc.).
SHARING STORIES is featured on www.northwestprimetime.com, the website

Straight down…and out into the distance. I couldn’t make out the other side of that vast deep canyon. I had never seen such a spectacular place as this before. We stayed about an hour. I didn’t want to leave, but I knew we had to make a schedule to get back to Las Vegas…on that 100 mph return trip. I will never forget the sights I saw that day and the fast tour trip I had.
