Joyous Ruminations Homework

Mary Boley

Love. Who loves me? What day is it today, and who do I feel loves me? Who do I love today? Sometimes in my heart, I feel it is a day-to-day feeling. Brilliant!

This might sound a bit sad or “poor me,” but really it’s not.

I love my husband and my sisters without reserve. Without thought, I would jump in front of a bullet for them, a little dramatic, but you get the picture. Not saying they don’t make me crazy at times, and I need to just take a deep breath and say to myself, ”Just let it go.”

The loss of my parents was hard, and I love them very much still in my heart.

The loss of my puppies…OH my gosh, I still weep at the thought of them all. But boy, do I love them still with every beat of my heart.

Friends. True friends, I have a few.

I love it when somebody calls me out of the blue and says, ”I was thinking about you today. How are you?” or “Come over for tea. I just made fresh muffins.” (I love muffins.)

Love is an open-ended word: Sometimes, it comes into your heart and out the other side. Wow!

I do love writing, gardening, walking on the beach, walking in the forest, creating yard art, and watching children laugh.

These things I’m sure of.

Mary Boley is a Westport, Washington student of Ariele’s and this piece is in response to the 12th Joyous Ruminations online class homework: Who do I love? (Start close and move out.) Who loves me? Then, write about any of those relationships, or, what the heck, go ahead and give me your definition of love! Ariele’s reaction to this piece: You have an amazing brain. I see this more and more, Mary.

SHARING STORIES is a weekly column for and about the 50 plus crowd living in the Puget Sound region. Send your stories and photos to ariele@comcast.net. Tell local or personal stories; discuss concerns around aging and other issues; share solutions, good luck, and reasons to celebrate; poems are fine too. Pieces may be edited or excerpted. We reserve the right to select among pieces. Photos are always a plus and a one-sentence bio is requested (where you live, maybe age or career, retired status, etc.).

SHARING STORIES is featured on http://www.northwestprimetime.com, the website for Northwest Prime Time, a monthly publication for baby boomers, seniors, retirees, and those contemplating retirement. The newspaper can be found in the greater Seattle area and other Puget Sound locations. For more information, call 206-824-8600 or visit http://www.northwestprimetime.com.
