The romance and popularity of train travel is on the rise, especially with seniors and boomers wanting relaxed, carefree travel with a spouse, a fun way to reconnect with friends or to take the grandkids on a magical adventure they will never forget.

Getting away is always a good idea, but saving 20% on coach seats is an even better one.

If you book your travel before December 31, 2015 at least 14 days in advance for travel through March 31, 2016, you will save 20% off coach with the Saver Fares.

Get away on the Coast Starlight

From Seattle, some of the best destinations and companion cities for the Saver Fares include:

• Seattle to Portland on the Coast Starlight

• Seattle to Klamath Falls on the Coast Starlight

• Seattle to the Bay Area (Emeryville/San Francisco) on the Coast Starlight

• Seattle to Leavenworth on the Empire Builder

• Seattle to Whitefish, MT on the Empire Builder

The Coast Starlight connects Seattle and Los Angeles and goes through some pretty amazing terrain. You’ll see the Cascade Range and Mount Shasta, and some of the West Coast’s “coolest” cities! “The Coast Starlight is the only Amtrak train where you can see both mountains and beaches on the same route,” said Coast Starlight’s route director Eric Smith. It is also Amtrak’s only train with a parlour car, which offers its own special menu. “The Parlour Car is unique because it is like sitting in your living room but with windows all around you, you enjoy the constantly changing spectacular views,” he added.

Two of Oregon’s most popular destinations are Portland and Klamath Falls.

Portland is an easy trip from Seattle and has a reputation for manicured parks, unique shopping districts and an eclectic nightlife. Nature cuts right into the city, and don’t miss the famous Japanese Garden—one of the largest and most beautiful of its kind outside of Japan.

• Tucked into the southern tip of Klamath Lake, the sunny city of Klamath Falls is in a perfect position to offer adventurous excursions and enticing resorts. Venture to the trails and lakes in the region for hiking, canoeing, bird watching, cross country skiing or golfing. And Klamath Falls is the perfect place to stage your visit to Crater Lake National Park.

• California offers many popular Amtrak Vacations package destinations including the natural beauty of Santa Barbara and the Tinseltown glamour of Los Angeles. But one of Coach Starlight’s most popular trip packages is the “San Francisco Ultimate Getaway,” booked through Amtrak Vacation Specialists.

Popular Empire Builder Destinations

Leavenworth is a Bavarian Village with shopping and grand celebrations throughout the year in the midst of spectacular scenery. It boasts varied accommodations and dining, tours, wine tasting and a quirky nutcracker museum. Nearby wilderness offers biking, hiking, skiing and more

Whitefish, Montana serves up rustic charm amid the rugged beauty of the Rockies. Nestled at the foot of Big Mountain and within a short distance of Glacier National Park, the area offers no shortage of accommodations and outdoor activities for all seasons from cycling, hiking, horseback riding and whitewater rafting to skiing in winter. Quaint Central Avenue charms visitors with a taste of historic Montana.

Jim Brzezinski, Route Director for Amtrak, says, “Part of the joy of train travel is comfort and a relaxed schedule. Amtrak is very welcoming to seniors, including special accommodations such as menus that accommodate dietary needs,” he adds.

“Just settle in and leave the driving to us. It’s time to come aboard and put the adventure back in your travels.”
