Time spent with your grandchildren builds important bonds that lead to meaningful lifelong relationships. So it makes sense that you might jump at the opportunity to spend not only a few hours, but an entire vacation with your grandkids. Many might find it difficult and even a bit intimidating to think of activities that you'll both enjoy. Keep in mind these four tips when planning a family vacation with your grandchildren, and you'll find your time together goes off without a hitch.

Plan engaging activities. Make sure you have plenty of fun and interesting activities to do together. Building a vacation around your hobby or that of your grandchild is an excellent starting point. For example, if you love boating, rent a kayak or teach your grandkids how to sail. If they love building model rockets, take a trip to a local air and space museum and wrap up the day with some model-making kits.

Go on a day trip. Whether it's going to an amusement park, visiting an aquarium, or going to the park for a picnic, day trips give you both something to look forward to and talk about.

Book accommodations with other kids. Even though your grandkids love you, they also need time with children their own age. Book accommodations geared toward families, like family hotels or campsites, where your grandkid is most likely to make new friends.

Prepare for rainy days. If there's bad weather, you'll need to find creative ways to keep occupied inside. Bring along board games, books, videos or supplies to make a photo album or diary of your adventures together.

Instead of fretting about how to fill the time, a little preparation will let you and your grandchildren enjoy your quality time together.
