Few places on this earth are as exotic and serenely beautiful as the Galapagos Islands, and choosing to visit them on your next family vacation will surely create memories to last a lifetime. If you still haven't totally made up your mind to go to these islands on your vacation, here are a few things that might help convince you.
Adventure of a Lifetime
The Galapagos Islands belong to Ecuador, but they are about 1000 kilometers west of it. They consist of 13 main islands and six smaller outlying ones. Due to heavy restrictions to preserve the wildlife, the only way to get onto the islands is via a flight from the mainland. You can take a flight to the Islands in the morning and return at night.
Visit Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz is one of the most popular of the Galapagos Islands, in part because of the activities available to tourists. One such must-see is the Charles Darwin Station. This is just west of the main town of Puerto Ayora, and it is a breeding and conservation area for the giant tortoises. Tortuga Bay is also a very popular spot on this island. One can see sharks, turtles, pelicans and blue herons in and around the mangroves in this area.
Snorkeling
Bring your own equipment or rent it from your tour operator and be sure to bring a waterproof camera. Fish, turtles, sea lions and myriad other creatures can be seen up close while snorkeling.
Diving
Diving off the Galapagos Islands has been ranked as one of the best diving destinations in the world. Due to the health of the aquatic environment and the sheer number of underwater life, diving here is unforgettable. It is, however, not for beginners as the depths and constant current changes can make diving tricky.
No matter what you choose to see or do while visiting the Galapagos Islands on your next family vacation, rest assured that the trip will be exciting, memorable and a trip of a lifetime.
