Anti-Agency

A Realistic Path to a $1,000,000 Business

Northwesterner and successful businessman Jason Yormark provides advice for the budding entrepreneur in his new book, ANTI-AGENCY

Northwesterner Jason Yormark offers an unconventional approach for entrepreneurs in his new book, Anti-Agency: A Realistic Path to a $1,000,000 Business. Jason also hosts the Anti Agency podcast, where he shares stories of doing business differently.

Anti-Agency is a passion project for Jason and his desire to help motivate, inspire and educate anyone to take the leap into starting their own business and do it along a realistic path – even for the older entrepreneur.

“It’s never too late in life to build a business,” says Jason. “In fact, I would argue that the wisdom and maturity that comes with life experience puts you in favorable position to not make the same mistakes you might earlier in life.”

The book takes the reader through strategies for new businesses, including the “runway plan,” to create a realistic path for starting your business.

“The key is to have realistic expectations, assuming you wouldn’t be relying on the income from a new business to survive,” adds Jason. “If that is the case, it’s all about building that runway. Commit to building an online brand that people can connect with and the sales will come.”

Even if you are only seeking to earn a little extra money doing something you love, don’t let the book’s subtitle of building a million-dollar business scare you off. Jason tells budding entrepreneurs with modest expectations… “I do feel the book would still inspire and motivate folks in this situation. The tactics and strategies can apply to anyone regardless of whether they want to build a million-dollar business, or just a nice steady side income.”

Jason – who describes himself as agency owner, author, podcaster, hat lover, and public speaker on all things marketing, social media and entrepreneurship – says that ANTI-AGENCY was written with one goal in mind: to motivate budding entrepreneurs, young or old, to start and build a successful business using the same unconventional strategies and tactics he used in starting his “built from scratch” million-dollar social media marketing agency.

Throughout the book, he shares his personal story in a way readers can relate to, including a prologue about his love for baseball and dedicating the book to his mother. We also learn how Jason made his way from Chicago to the Seattle area after getting hired by Microsoft for his “almost” dream job.

He advises readers to find their entrepreneurial spark and then swallow hard and take the leap. But it is essential to lay the foundation through your personalized runway plan. The basics of the runway plan:

  • Decide on your timeline, and then to work backward.
  • Create a professional brand image, which includes your company name, tagline and logo.
  • Will your business be digital? Develop a content plan.
  • Make relevant connections. Put in an hour or two every day, he advises.
  • Conduct research.
  • Define your product and service offerings.
  • Establish your core values.
  • Be certain of your intent.
  • Practice self-discipline.
  • Set realistic expectations.

Of course, there is a lot more to creating a successful business. Jason writes, “The best thing you can do is give yourself the time and preparation to chart your course.”
