Tired of the same old? Top ways of bringing new life into your aging home

Remember the personality of your grandma’s house? Everything was crocheted, quilted, or hand crafted wood. Vintage rockers that could shake the ground at modern home & garden shows awakened within you an inner desire to grasp and hold fast to history — right down to 1930s portable wind-up gramophone.

Maybe your home is not so aged as grandma’s place, but it is starting to look slightly “tired.” The furniture is modern yet feeling drab on the eyes. There is no rocker on the porch at all.

Perhaps it’s time to visit the better home and garden furniture store. Shifting eras is a great way to bring new life into an aging home. Glass cake plates, home-grown potted plants and a 1936, Gibson ES-150 guitar hanging on the living room wall can stir up the excitement of Charlie Christian when he first linked up with Benny Goodman.

Getting rid of old doesn’t take so many great changes as it does a few specific changes. Décor needs to complement décor, but sometimes the greatest sense of new life comes due to resurrected memories.

There was peace in grandma’s home. Even when the crops failed or the river climbed up out of its steep banks, swamping the land with mud, and slime and snakes, the comfort in that house remained alive and real. Going back in time can be a great way to make a house into a home.

Of course, you might want to take in a few local home and garden shows before getting too buy focused.
