If you are faced with fighting cancer, take time out to enjoy life to the fullest. Not only will this help you feel better emotionally and mentally, there can be corresponding benefits to your physical health. When you are happy and enjoying things, your body produces hormones called endorphins, the happy hormones. Endorphins can be generated by as simple an action as a nice hug, enjoying a favorite meal or viewing sights that you love.

There are relationships between protein and prostate cancer, prostate cancer and diet, and immune system strength and hormones. Of course, you need to pay attention to your doctor’s orders and ask important questions of your qualified health professional, but there are many things you can do on your own. Taking time to enjoy life to the fullest should be a priority right after following doctor’s orders.

There are many great ideas for enjoying life. Here are just a few to consider:

Create a “bucket list” of things you always wanted to do or see. Put them in order of importance and start out to do #1.

Make a concerted effort to stay in touch with or reconnect with people you love or who have been important in your life. Your time, every second, is important, not only to you but to those you love. Share time every day with a loved one. Life is all about human connections when you get down to basics.

Stay positive and surround yourself with positive people who can encourage you to stretch to your limits to achieve your goals.

Take some kind of lesson to learn something new. Maybe you always wished you could play the piano — take piano lessons. Tennis? Great sport you can learn and enjoy.

Assemble a scrapbook about you. Fill it with photos, notes, awards and anything else you want others to know about you. Include a lifetime dream or wish list, and check off all you have completed. (Add the uncompleted items to your bucket list.)

While you are having fun, study nutrition; take a class or online instruction to learn about a healthy diet. There is a definite connection between prostate cancer and diet. New studies show a good relation between consumption of protein and prostate cancer; the protein increases called glutathione, a powerful antioxidant, to be released from prostate cells to help fight cancer. It’s never too late to improve your food intake and to follow the latest scientific evidence that relates to your disease.
