Last month, many organizations celebrated their volunteers for April’s Volunteer Appreciation Month. The following article is courtesy of Sound Generations.

It is time to celebrate the heart and dedication of those who give their time to support our community. One shining example is Susan Garrett, a volunteer driver with Sound Generations who has been making a difference since 2016.

After retiring from a career as a hospital software manager, Susan read about Sound Generations in The Seattle Times and knew she had found the perfect way to give back. For her, volunteering isn’t just about transportation—it’s about connection. From a WWII pilot to an 83-year-old chemistry student, Susan has met incredible people along the way, each with a story to share.

“We are all in this together,” Susan reflects.

The launch of our new volunteer software has made scheduling more flexible, and Susan appreciates the ease of picking up and managing ride requests.

As we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Month, we recognize that volunteers like Susan are the backbone of our programs. Their kindness fuels our mission, and their impact is felt across King County. Susan believes more people should hear about the work we do—let’s amplify her message and continue building a strong, connected community.
