Traveling with grandkids: Family-friendly Las Vegas vacation activities

Whoever said that Vegas was just for grownups probably hasn’t paid Sin City a visit in quite some time. Long gone are the days of old when all you could really count on is scantily clad showgirls and losing your paycheck at the first blackjack table you hit. These days, Las Vegas has morphed into a wonderland of colorful activity for those young and old. If you’re thinking of taking the grandkids on vacation with you, why not swing by Vegas and take advantage of some of these uniquely family-friendly activities?

Fremont Street Zip Line Ride — That’s right, old Fremont Street has done quite a bit of evolving in the last few years, including adding a zip line that sends you careening 67 feet above the throngs below. Kids under 18 can ride as long as they have parental (or grand-parental) permission.

Circus Circus Adventuredome — Featuring rides with names like The Sling Shot and Canyon Blaster, the Adventuredome is a five-acre indoor theme park offering rides for kids of all ages, including those old enough to know better but too young at heart to care.

M&M’s World — This is exactly what it sounds like: One really big store where you can buy all things M&M. If you’ve got a few dollars to spend and grandkids to please, you’ve found the right place. Here in this four-story, 28,000-square-foot store, you can get everything from personalized M&Ms to desk lamps to hats. You name it, and they’ve probably got it.

Tournament of Kings — Get yourself well fed and entertained in this one-of-a-kind, medieval-themed dinner show complete with warring armies, jousts, fireworks and dancing maidens. This is one of those attractions that you’ll enjoy just as much as the young ones you bring along.

Silverton Hotel Aquarium — Named the best free attraction in Las Vegas, the Silverton Hotel and Casino’s 117,000-gallon aquarium is home to 4,000 fish, including stingrays and sharks. The fact that the Silverton is located a few miles from the Vegas Strip makes this a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of downtown and a great place to spend the afternoon with the grandkids.
