Tired of bunnies? Take an Easter vacation to the Holy Land

Nowhere are the events of Easter week more special than in the Holy Land. If you’re tired of the usual, resort-style spring break vacations, maybe it’s time to consider a more spiritual journey, one that you and your family will remember for a lifetime. If visiting the Holy Land for Easter is intriguing to you, below is just a sampling of the Easter week events held there. The events of 2012 are extra special as the Jewish feast of Passover and the Christian celebration of Easter coincide.

  1. Anglican Church of St. George, the Martyr. The Anglican church in Jerusalem will host services daily beginning on Palm Sunday, April 1 and ending with three services on Easter Sunday, April 8. Services are held in both English and Arabic. The Anglican Church is the overseas sister to the American Episcopal Church.
  2. Garden Tomb. The Garden Tomb, located just outside of the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem, is considered by some to be the tomb where Jesus was placed after he was crucified. On Good Friday, the site will be open all day for private prayer and meditation. There will be a 6:30 a.m. sunrise service at the tomb on Easter Sunday.
  3. Dansk Kirke I Udlandet. Located in Jerusalem’s Old City, this historic Danish Lutheran church hosts services in Danish and English on both Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday.
  4. Palm Sunday processional. One of the highlights of visiting the Holy Land during Easter season is the reenactment of Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jerusalem. This procession begins at 5:00 p.m. at Bethpage Church on the Mount of Olives, travels to Gethsemane and concludes at the entrance to the Old City.
