Grandparent and Me Tea at University Place

Pierce County Libraries — You and your grandchildren are invited to a tea party! Grandparents, bring a tea set to share with your grandchildren. Grandchildren – bring a stuffed animal to share with your grandparent.

This free event takes place on Thursday, August 23 at 3pm at the University Place Library, 3609 Market Place W, Suite 100 in University Place, WA, 98466. University Place Library is part of the Pierce County Library system.

“The 50+ Committee for the Pierce County Library system is working with Youth Services in a joint effort to organize programs for grandparents (or great-grandchildren) to bring the two age groups together,” says University Place librarian Kristine Countryman and member of Pierce County Library’s 50+ committee. She along with Youth Services Librarian Patty Amador helped to create the “Grandparent and Me Tea.”

Another new program of Pierce County Library’s 50+ program brings a workshop for caregivers of those with dementia. Caregivers of people with dementia will learn how to improve quality of life for themselves and their loved ones, decreasing anxiety, fear and frustration. The workshops are presented by experts in the field:

“The workshops include a short video featuring a dementia patient who paints self-portraits over the course of time It is very interesting to see the progression of the disease through visual art, ” says Kristine Countryman. The workshops take place at four Pierce County Libraries: Aug 14, 4-5pm at Bonney Lake Library, 18501 90th St E; Aug 16 at 7:30pm at Gig Harbor Library 4424 Point Fosdick Dr NW Gig Harbor; Aug 15 at 7:30pm at Parkland Spanaway Library 13718 Pacific Ave S; Aug 13 at University Place Library 3609 Market Place W.
