COMMUNITY HEALTH PLAN OF WASHINGTON CELEBRATING 20TH ANNIVERSARY

SEATTLE, Wash. – Community Health Plan of Washington is marking their 20th anniversary of providing low income individuals and families across the state with affordable, high quality health care coverage. Founded in 1992 by a network of community health centers, Community Health Plan collaborates with the state’s community health centers to ensure access to care for public program enrollees.

Starting this summer, Community Health Plan is the only not-for-profit health plan contracted with the state to serve public program enrollees in Washington State and serves all of Washington’s 39 counties. Any savings generated from providing care to our enrollees are re-invested back into local communities. Community Health Plan is currently providing access to health services for over 325,000 members.

“Community Health Plan’s future is bright. As a result of the innovations we have made over the years, we are well positioned to care for new populations, including the Medicaid expansion, Exchange enrollees and individuals dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. These present new and exciting opportunities for both us and the state’s community health centers. We would not be able to do this work without the support and collaboration of the community health centers that we work closely with.” commented Lance Hunsinger, CEO.

Community Health Plan provides health coverage to Washington State residents through Washington Health Program, Medicare Advantage, Managed Medicaid (Healthy Options), Basic Health and Medical Care Services enrollees.

The community health center system, made up of Community Health Plan and the state’s community health centers, stimulate local economies at the rate of $1.77 for every dollar spent, including approximately 8,500 direct and downstream jobs and $176 million in annual tax contributions. Community Health Plan returns savings to communities to reinvest in health center facilities and expanded access to care. With these efforts, 47% more uninsured people received care at community health centers since 2000.
