A Song for The New Year

the new year’s here, the old one’s gone

we now can sing a brand new song

a song of hope, of love and cheer

of good things for this brand new year

we sing of all the dreams we share

of peace on earth, and loving care

of nations holding out their hands

to welcome change throughout the lands

we sing of all the good things in life

of love, and happiness, not war and strife

of children healthy, and carefree days

of changing mores and loving ways

we sing the song of peace on earth

we sing of joy, and love and mirth

we sing for all the newborn babes

that their lives will be the ones we save

we sing for truth, and justice and right

and for hope, and freedom to do what’s right

we sing for all those who have no voice

for those who have no rights or choice

so sing a new song for this new year

sing of gladness, joy and cheer

and when that song is over and done

we will sing another one

SHARING STORIES is a weekly column for and about the 50 plus crowd living in the Puget Sound region. Send your stories and photos to ariele@comcast.net. Tell local or personal stories; discuss concerns around aging and other issues; share solutions, good luck, and reasons to celebrate; poems are fine too. Pieces may be edited or excerpted. We reserve the right to select among pieces. Photos are always a plus and a one-sentence bio is requested (where you live, maybe age or career, retired status, etc.).
