Consumers lose billions of dollars every year to various kinds of consumer fraud. According to a study conducted by AARP, people over 50 years of age are especially vulnerable and account for more than half of all victims.

That’s why the AARP Fraud Fighter Call Center is partnering with a host of leading consumer advocates and experts to present “Scam Jam,” a free consumer information event on Monday, September 17.

Scam Jam promises to be an educational and entertaining program where you can learn about today’s scams and schemes, such as Medicare fraud, insurance and investment fraud, identity theft, and some of the other leading scams targeting consumers.

“Whether it’s bogus investment deals, the Grandparent Scam, or the newest ID Theft ploy - sophisticated con-artists are busy at work coming up with new ways to get you to hand over your hard-earned money,” says AARP Fraud Fighter Call Center Director Jean Mathisen. “It’s important to keep up to date on the latest scams and schemes to help protect you and the people you care about.”

Join us to learn first-hand from the experts about how to protect yourself and get your questions answered by consumer advocates and agencies ready to help you. You’ll also be able to visit exhibits from a variety of local and national consumer protection agencies.

This free event will be held from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Criminal Justice Training Center, located at 19010 1st Ave. South , Burien , WA 98148 . The event is free, but pre-registration is required. Register online at www.aarp.org/wa or by calling toll free 1-877-926-8300.
