Man in His 90s Creates Podcast for Lonely Seniors
Last year, 97-year-old Alberto Chab of Buenos Aires worked with his granddaughter to post a video asking other older adults to talk about their lives.
More than 1,500 emails later, Alberto realized that there is a need for seniors to talk to each other. A 26-year-old journalist, Guadalupe Camurati, was inspired by the outpouring, and decided that the project was worthy of a podcast.
Seniors on the podcast discuss a wide range of topics, from healthy habits to new ways of connecting, from going to the eye doctor to doing the tango! And, of course, a lively debate on how to live a long and joyful life.
This August will mark the one-year anniversary of the podcast. “The idea is to make the group think about how they connect the topic of 90 AND COUNTING to their everyday lives.”
Alberto reflected that the podcast has had a positive impact on the lives of everyone involved, making them feel more connected to their relatives and the larger society. “…there are things to tell our grandchildren or children, or neighbors or friends. There are things to ask them… A very fruitful dialogue that didn’t exist before,” said Alberto.
