Providence ElderPlace PACE in King, Snohomish and Spokane counties offers an example of how to care for seniors, keep them independent and cared for in their own homes

Providence ElderPlace PACE is a program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) which is designed to help seniors maintain their independence and continue living in their own homes rather than going to a skilled nursing facility.

This year, the theme for National PACE Month is “Simplify Your Life: At Your PACE.”

“We really can help simplify your life – whether you are a senior needing healthcare and social services or you are a family member seeking care for your loved ones,” said Brian Osborne, executive director of Providence ElderPlace PACE, which serves 1,360 participants in King, Snohomish and Spokane counties. “With seven PACE centers in Washington state, we are here to provide the option that will allow you and your relatives to be well taken care of while they still live in the community.”

PACE is a model of care, providing holistic and individualized solutions that allow older adults to live at home with a higher quality of life and at a reduced cost. Care is provided by interdisciplinary teams comprised of physicians, registered nurses, home care coordinators, personal care attendants, dieticians, social workers, drivers, PACE center managers, and physical, occupational and recreational therapists.

PACE simplifies care by identifying, organizing and providing all necessary services a senior needs to stay healthy.

The greying of America continues at a rapid pace with even the youngest baby-boomers hitting their 60s this year. By 2030, there will be more people 65 and older than there are children in America, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This demographic shift is weighing heavily on the healthcare industry with today’s 65-year-olds having a 70% likelihood of needing long-term care in the future. This is happening while the supply of skilled nursing home beds is rapidly dwindling.

It is projected that the number of senior citizens, age 65+ will nearly double from 52 million in 2018 to 95 million by 2060, placing an even heavier burden on the home healthcare industry. Our nation’s private senior care industry is simply not equipped to properly handle such a massive increase of older Americans.

For seniors in King, Snohomish and Spokane counties, Providence ElderPlace PACE may be a viable option.

PACE programs help people meet their healthcare needs while staying in their homes instead of going to a skilled nursing home or care facility. PACE provides comprehensive medical care, social services, and a physical site in the community for adult day services.
