Join the Seattle Rose Society for its annual free rose pruning demonstration at Woodland Park Rose Garden in Seattle on Saturday, March 9. Learn from rosarians the proper techniques for pruning and cutting.

The Seattle Rose Society was started in 1913, making it the oldest horticultural society in the Seattle area. The Society has a roster of more than 200 active and enthusiastic members from all over Puget Sound, the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Members have a wide variety of interests in roses, including gardening, hybridizing, arranging and exhibiting roses. The Society was instrumental in the founding of the Woodland Park Rose Garden in 1924 with the help of the Lions Club.
WHAT:Who doesn’t love the soft, smooth petals of a rose? If you’re cultivating roses at home, it’s that time of the year to get the hand pruner, lopper and hand saw out to prune for healthier, vibrant shrubs. Join the Seattle Rose Society on Saturday, March 9 at its free annual rose pruning demonstration at Woodland Park Rose Garden.Discover the varieties of roses, how to care for them, how much to cut, and how to properly use pruning tools for correct cuts and pruning techniques. Plus, ask the rosarians any questions about roses.This year, 2024, marks the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Rose Garden, a glorious setting for all to stroll the grass pathways circulating through 2½ acres of rose displays. The extensive array of bush roses, hybrid teas, floribundas, grandifloras, and climbers blends elegantly with the garden’s formal architectural design for a memorable showcase landscape.Inside the Rose Garden, the Seattle Sensory Garden is designed for those with and without disabilities to enjoy. A variety of elements encourages guests to touch and explore at their leisure, including deep-toned wind chimes, temple bells and guiros—rectangular wooden posts with slots that create noise when touched. An accessible paved pathway, special sensory-friendly carpeting, and raised beds make for easier interaction with the variety of trees, shrubs and bulbs planted throughout the garden. Parking in the zoo’s Hippo Lot at N. 50th St. & Fremont Ave. N.: $6 first two hours, $2 each additional hour daily, maximum of $12 plus applicable state and local taxes. Parking fees do not apply for any vehicle displaying a valid disabled parking placard.
