THE FLYING EASTER EGGS

While growing up on a farm in Idaho, my mother kept the Easter Bunny traditions alive by decorating with candy eggs. She carefully placed each candy egg behind a chair leg, on the windowsill, behind the toaster or behind the TV. Each egg was in a little nook or cranny.

I tried to continue this tradition when my kids were growing up. I bought the candy eggs. Then on the Saturday night before Easter, I went out and had a fun-filled night. One Sunday morning, I overslept. My kids came into my bedroom and declared that the bunny hadn’t come to our house!

I leaped out of bed, ran to the window, and told them the bunny was outside in the yard. They all ran outside and that’s when the flurry began: I ripped open the bags of candy and ran to each room, flinging candy all the way—throwing and slinging bags of eggs to the bedroom, kitchen, and living room. Eggs landed everywhere—on the bed, on the couch, under furniture, on the curtains, in closets and under tables. When the kids ran back in, I declared the bunny had arrived and brought them eggs.

SHARING STORIES is a weekly column for and about the 50 plus crowd living in the Puget Sound region. Send your stories and photos to ariele@comcast.net. We reserve the right to select among pieces. Photos are always a plus and a one-sentence bio is requested (where you live, maybe age or career, retired status, etc.).
