The Story of Yoda
An alien cry of despair penetrated the stormy night demanding my attention. The pale moonlight revealed a frightened creature on the deck.
Mysterious owl eyes lost in a black mop of drenched fur greeted me. Barely recognizable, the neglected feline was undernourished and desperate for attention. The small face with exaggerated large eyes was so homely it was irresistible and her wail for help pierced my heart.
Gray bushy brows, bright eyes, and a small button nose presented a grouchy expression. Tangled knots of brittle fur exposed patches of gray wrinkled skin, resembling Yoda, the 900-year-old Jedi Master, whose origin was also steeped in mystery.
Relieved to be met with kindness, my new friend bumped her scrawny body against my leg and began to purr. Light as a dishcloth, she was in critical need of nourishment, and I couldn’t turn her away. Warm and safe in my comfortable home, I felt obligated to rescue her from further misery and locate the owner.
The moment I opened my door to this stranger it was clear she expected nothing less. A pedigreed cat, she had been accustomed to living inside and having her needs met. Calm and fearless she accepted my invitation with a regal air.
Miserable with ear mites, fleas, and painful knots of hair tugging her skin she needed help. Starving, lost, and hungry for human companionship, she trusted a stranger to do the right thing. Her loving personality stole my heart.
Yoda’s noble attitude immediately irritated my cat, Minnie, who, feeling threatened, hissed and pouted. In a territorial dispute she stalked the intruder, but Yoda ignored her, interested only in locating food. Our new guest possessed a gentle temperament and adjusted to her new environment graciously. Some regarded her as unattractive, but she knew how beautiful she really was. After relishing a satisfying meal, her highness curled up on the couch, groomed her ragged coat and took a nap.
An appointment with the vet revealed the cat was a spayed Persian female with two seriously infected ears, requiring an expensive overnight stay. The veterinarian believed the cat had been neglected for several years and discouraged me from seeking the previous owner.
The first few days she concentrated on eating, sleeping, and eating again. She pleaded for attention and enchanted me with her luminous yellow eyes and attentive gaze. With the confidence of a queen, she explored her new estate with a sense of entitlement. Her easygoing personality gradually dissolved Minnie’s resentment and she forgave Yoda for invading her space.
Yoda knew she deserved to be treated royally and she kept searching until she found a castle with loving subject.
