Where in Washington?

This photo of the Columbia River by Mitch Lewis is not part of our photo contest, however, it does have a direct tie-in. It was featured on the cover of Northwest Prime Time's June 2018 edition and leads to the photo from our last contest. That cover featured an article by Judy Bentley, Walking Washington's Riverfronts, PLUS the photo from our last contest. Please see the article below for the photo in question, as well as the answer. Welcome Gate to the Land Bridge in Vancouver, Washington, photo by Judy Bentley

The last photo contest featured a picture of the Land Bridge in Vancouver, Washington.

There were many correct answers to the contest. The winner of the $100 prize, drawn at random from the correct answers, is Marlie of Port Angeles.

The Land Bridge, also known as the Confluence Project, is a 40-foot wide, earth covered pedestrian bridge over Highway 14. It is lined with indigenous plants and Native basket weavings. The Land Bridge connects historic Fort Vancouver with the Columbia River waterfront.

This photo of the Welcome Gate to the Land Bridge, marked by an archway of canoe paddles, is courtesy of Judy Bentley.

Judy Bentley wrote a book on the historical role of rivers in the state, Walking Washington’s History: Ten Cities. She also wrote an article, Walking Washington’s Riverfronts for Northwest Prime Time, which appeared on the cover of our June 2018 edition. Please enjoy Judy’s article by linking here: Walking Washington’s Riverfronts.

We will post the new photo contest in early July, so visit our homepage soon!

Congratulations to the winner of our last contest, Marlie of Port Angeles
