Garden, Wildlife and Frog Enthusiasts

Do you love gardening but don’t have one of your own? Or perhaps you are looking for a way to give back to the community and connect with others. Or maybe you like the idea of helping local wildlife, including birds, butterflies and even frogs?

The Edmonds Wildlife Habitat Native Demonstration Garden is seeking volunteers to help them get the garden back into shape after needing to close down a lot of activities due to the pandemic.

Back in 2009, residents in Edmonds organized with the help of the National Wildlife Federation to learn more about protecting local birds and providing outreach to the larger community. The result was that Edmonds was eventually certified as a wildlife community, but they still had the hurdle of creating a Wildlife Habitat Native Plant Demonstration Garden.

A year later, the organization invited volunteers to help them develop a native plant garden which included habitat features for local birds, bees and butterflies, as well as frogs and amphibians, chipmunks and garter snakes.

“From the day we started planting the Demo Garden, we also started doing free educational workshops with local experts about wildlife and native plants and also some wildlife artists.” A donations jar helps cover water and heating costs.

Program volunteers have started refurbishing and replanting parts of the garden, and are planning some safe educational programs and activities once again. They are seeking more volunteers to participate in this rewarding project.
