89th Annual Daffodil Parade

Mark your calendar for April 9

The Daffodil Festival will once again travel through Pierce County.

On April 9, the traditional Queen’s float and parade can be found in the following cities in this order: Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting.

The parade will kick off at 10:15am in Tacoma, with the route traveling down Pacific Avenue. It will then continue in Puyallup at 12:15pm through South Meridian, West Meeker and 3rd Street SW. The Sumner portion of the parade will begin at 2:30pm, traveling down Main Street. Finally, the parade will conclude in Orting at 5pm on Washington Avenue.

The Daffodil Parade is a tradition in Pierce County. It began in 1926 as a Garden Party celebrating and admiring the different species of daffodils in bloom. Gaining popularity over the years, it has grown into a chance for the community to come together to view the many different floats from around Washington state, all decorated with the bright flowers.

“The world has endured great hardships, isolation and loss the past couple of years,” said Scott Dellinger, the 2022 Daffodil Festival president. “The Daffodil Festival Grand Floral Parade is positive that, as a community, if we stay together, help one another, and never give up hope, that we can rise above any adversity. For decades, the parade has brought the community together in celebration of Spring. This year, it symbolizes our fortitude and our refusal to allow even a pandemic to break our spirits. We look forward to celebrating the community once again in grand fashion.”
