HOME FOR CHRISTMAS

“I’ll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams.”

But, as the tears start to form, I say, “Where is home?”

Is it where I was born, where I grew up, where my son grew up?

Or is it one of the many homes since then I have had?

For now, my home is where I hang my hat

—a place where I can be me,

a place I can meet with my Lord

and remember the family that makes it home.

My church family has become my home,

a home full of friends too many to count.

So, now when I hear, “I’ll be home for Christmas,”

I can think of my church family, who will always be there for me.

So, may we come to our Lord’s house,

and say “I am home for Christmas.”

Today and all year through,

may the joy of Christmas be with all of you.

SHARING STORIES is a weekly column for and about the 50 plus crowd living in the Puget Sound region. Send your stories and photos to ariele@comcast.net. Tell local or personal stories; discuss concerns around aging and other issues; share solutions, good luck, and reasons to celebrate; poems are fine too. Pieces may be edited or excerpted. We reserve the right to select among pieces. Photos are always a plus and a one-sentence bio is requested (where you live, maybe age or career, retired status, etc.).

SHARING STORIES is featured on http://www.northwestprimetime.com, the website for Northwest Prime Time, a monthly publication for baby boomers, seniors, retirees, and those contemplating retirement.
