Tech challenged? Get yourself schooled with an educational technology grant

Face up to tech challenges – get schooled with an educational technology grant.

With the speed at which modern technology changes, you may discover you are feeling a little bit tech challenged. Don’t be shy if that’s the case, because there is a wealth of information technology education available to you online and at local businesses and organizations. Educational technology grants are available to individuals; you can receive grant money to further your education, and there are special programs available to persons over age 55.

Getting up to speed with information technology education can be as simple as accessing a free computer at your local library, or you can take a course at your local community college or university. Many communities now have educational computing centers where you can learn computer skills and how to use the latest software programs. Scholarships for senior education are available, as are Pell grants and other financial assistance. The Small Business Administration has special technology loan and grant programs if you are running or want to start up a small business.

To obtain a grant, you need to apply. This means writing up your grant proposal that contains all the information required by the organization funding the grant. You most likely will have to explain why you need funds or education, what you intend to do with it, and how this would benefit others. Your goals need to be in line with the objectives of the funding organization’s goals in providing grants. Watch out for details like deadlines and which forms to use. Have some way to measure results and the success of your proposed work or educational pursuit.

Beware of scammers who promise to help but only want to sell you their book. Do not pay someone else to write your proposal; you can do it. Look at examples. You can get your information technology education at low cost or free and join the IT revolution; have some fun in your retirement years!
