North City Jazz Walk Comes to Seattle-Area on August 14

A Jazz Festival all in one night!

Where the beats hit the Street

On Tuesday, August 14 enjoy the best live jazz around at the 6th Annual North City Jazz Walk. Take a stroll along 15th Avenue NE in Shoreline and enjoy one great venue after another between 7–10 PM. This year, come early and enjoy “Jazz Bites” delicious food items specifically provided for the event.

The 2012 line-up of 10 eclectic groups offers a close-up experience with some of the area’s best jazz players.

Greta Matassa is Back!

Iconic Northwest jazz vocalist Greta Matassa headlines the North City Jazz Walk with the dynamic Critical Mass Big Band at St. Mark Church. Shoreline’s favorite sax player, Doug Reid, returns to the North City Lounge with his gritty roadhouse sound. The Shear Jazz quintet comes back to Laughing Ladies Cafe with Jacques Willis on vibes hammering out the best of George Shearing.

Returning by popular demand, Jimmy Holden brings his rollicking blues quartet back to the North City Eagles featuring Tim Smith on drums and vocals. If you love a good torch singer, do not miss Stephanie Porter with Steve Yusen at the intimate North City Theater. Want to dance the night away? Tom Marriott’s Tumbao returns with an evening of salsa music under the stars and the Casey MacGill Group livens up Brown’s Coffee.

What’s New?

New to this year’s line-up is Hook Me Up, a Tacoma-based quartet featuring trumpeter Tracey Hooker playing a mix of jazz and pop. Hook Me Up offers familiar themes with a fresh jazz treatment. Hit the North City Bistro to hear the Bill Anschell Trio. And remember you can stop along the way at the beer and wine gardens or for a yummy dessert.

The sixth annual Jazz Walk wouldn’t be complete without the Shoreline Summer Jazz Camp sponsored by the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council. This venue features a showcase of the student/faculty band free on the fabulous Show Mobile stage located at the Air Industrial site.
