Tips on keeping up with the Madonnas of the world

Madonna’s recent Super bowl halftime show proved that she’s still got it at the age of 53. Still as lean and strong as ever, sure, but let’s be honest: Madonna has the time and money to work with personal trainers to stay on top of her game. That said, while keeping up with the Madonnas of the world is easier with money, there are fitness plans for women that will work no matter your status in life:

  1. Set realistic goals. Bear in mind that no amount of working out will do the job entirely. Madonna doesn’t just have personal trainers, she also uses spa treatments and, perhaps, a degree of cosmetic surgery to get rid of sagging skin. No matter how much you work out, at the age of 50, you’re going to have the skin of a 50 year old. Be that as it may…
  2. Lotion and toning can do much of the same job. Keeping your skin moisturized can help to prevent excessive wrinkling and sagging, so don’t just work out, but keep your arms toned and lotioned, as well.
  3. When body fat can help. Many critics actually point out that Madonna’s body looks a little more aged than athletes with the same toned physique. The difference is that athletes actually have higher body fat than Madonna on average. Body fat can actually help you to look and feel more healthy. Where Madonna is estimated at 10% to 13% body fat, an athlete with the same physique otherwise might have 14% to 20% body fat. Maintaining good weight is a tricky part of learning how to stay in shape.
  4. Working hard. How serious are you about getting the sexy arms and shoulders you want at 40 and up? Madonna works out two hours a day, six days a week. If you have the time and energy for this, you will likely have the strength and shape to look just like you wish, but know that genetics play a role, as well.

There’s no guarantee that the right exercises will make you look exactly like Madonna or Michelle Obama, but if your goal is to look like the very best possible version of you, well, that’s a little more realistic.
