The benefits of group exercise

Getting into better shape or maintaining a certain level of fitness can seem like an uphill battle. Fortunately, it is not a battle that needs to be fought alone. Group exercise activities are increasingly popular and include people of all ages and fitness levels. While some may feel self-conscious about getting involved with group training exercises it should be noted that they are not the only one in the group suffering from those workout butterflies.

There are many reasons to stick with your group exercise activities, and many benefits to be gained if you do. First of all, simply knowing that you are not alone can do wonders when it comes to staying motivated with your fitness goals. Whether you’re taking a Pilates class or are in a walking club you’ll find yourself looking forward to seeing the other people in the group, even if you’re not looking forward to the exercise.

Another benefit of group exercise is that working out with a group helps keep you accountable, both to yourself and other members in the group. Often simply knowing that they will ask where you were if you miss group exercise activities can be enough motivation to get you out the door to show up. Training with a group also gives you a more well rounded guide when it comes to doing individual group training exercises. Once again “peer pressure” will have you truly trying your best, which means you’ll get more out of the experience.

Lastly, it’s important not to underestimate the importance of celebrating your success as well as the success of others in your group. When the time comes for a good old fashioned pat on the back it’s always great when you can celebrate together.
