Love
Love is a perennial subject, and we all know what it is. But do we really? We use the word loosely, and it makes me think that I, especially, don’t really know what it’s all about.
In the Sound Singers group at Edmonds Senior Center, where I accidentally and luckily belong, a gifted singer sang “Love is a Many Splendored Thing.”
I know this song and sang it long ago, but the meaning came to me just now, and how powerfully it grabbed me!
My soul was forced to wake up in a joyful way, in a delightful discovery that now that I know, I could savor; I can feel it in my bones; I could shout it to the rooftops—and make me a new person.
Love is nature’s way of giving.
Love is a reason for living.
Love is a golden crown that makes a man a King!
Connie Pacis, originally from the Philippines, now lives in the Edmonds area, attending the senior center’s Writers Round Table and Sound Singers group.
SHARING STORIES is a weekly column for and about the 50 plus crowd living in the Puget Sound region. Send your stories and photos to ariele@comcast.net. Tell local or personal stories; discuss concerns around aging and other issues; share solutions, good luck, and reasons to celebrate; poems are fine too. Pieces may be edited or excerpted. We reserve the right to select among pieces. Photos are always a plus and a one-sentence bio is requested (where you live, maybe age or career, retired status, etc.).
SHARING STORIES is featured on www.northwestprimetime.com, the website for Northwest Prime Time, a monthly publication for baby boomers, seniors, retirees, and those contemplating retirement. The newspaper can be found in the greater Seattle area and other Puget Sound locations. For more information, call 206-824-8600 or visit www.northwestprimetime.com.
