Hairstyles are an important part of any woman's appearance. We all want to look our best, and when we need a change, a new hairstyle is usually the first option. As we age, the shape of our faces and features may change. The hairstyle that looked good on you 20 years ago may still be in fashion, but is it the right one for you now? Today, there are many older women hair styles that are fashionable and trendy -- but how do you know what's the best style for your face shape? Here are some tips to help you choose the best one for you:

Know your face shape - There are 7 basic face shapes: oval, round, square, heart, diamond, oblong, and triangular. The goal of any good hairstyle is to give the appearance of an oval face. If your face shape is already oval, you can probably pull off just about any style. If it's one of the other 6 shapes, talk to your stylist to see what she recommends or do an internet search for hairstyles that match your face shape, such as hairstyles for square faces, round faces, etc.

Rule of thumb - If you find a photograph of a style you like, it's time to use the rule of thumb. Literally. Place your thumb over the face of the model in the picture. Do you still like the hairstyle, or was it the overall appearance of the model that you liked?

Try it on - There are several programs online that allow you to upload a photo of yourself and insert it into a photo of a hairstyle. This can be a good way to try out a hairstyle or color without committing yourself to it, and without the regret that can sometimes come as a result of paying for a look you might end up disliking.
