Historic Estate Garden Tour in The Highlands to Benefit The Dunn Gardens Private Owners Open Their Gardens for Limited Viewing on June 24, 2012

(Seattle, WA) The E.B. Dunn Historic Garden Trust is proud to host its fifth tour of Northwest gardens in The Highlands on June 24 from 1:30 – 5:00. This is a rare opportunity to stroll four estate gardens.

You will be driven from the parking area to one of the four gardens open for this tour and then be able to stroll from one to another. A van will be available to return you to your car.

The gardens included this year are diverse in style and in age. One garden was designed in 1923 by James Frederick Dawson of the Olmsted Brothers firm Brookline, MA, one in the 1930’s by Otto Holmdahl a landscape architect who whose office was in Seattle, another in the later half of the last century and one has just been renovated this year, at least in part.

Join the tour and you will wander through four wonderful northwest gardens located at the eastern edge of Puget Sound in The Highlands. One is an Italianate woodland garden complete with fountains and elegant garden art. One is lovely for its natural layout where manmade water features seem as if they were created by mother- nature. One garden accommodates its exposed and dramatic location above the sound and does so with panache and style. One garden is a blend of newer and older formal and less formal. In this newly renovated garden you will see how artfully the new terrace, gardens and lawn blend with the surrounding woodland garden and water feature.

There will be music, refreshments will be available along the way and there will be a gift by which you can remember the day you supported the Dunn Gardens.

Dunn Garden docents and the curators, Glenn Withey and Charles Price, will be on hand to answer questions and share other details of these stunning properties.
